first_imgThe Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills has presented a White Paper named ‘Success as a Knowledge Economy’ which could lead to an increase in tuition fees for students at British universities.Just six years after Universities were permitted to “adjust to new demands” by requiring UK and EU students pay fees going up to £9,000 and over 15 years after these were first introduced in the country, the White Paper draws the outline of a new system devised to encourage competition between institutions. Both of these previous decisions had been followed by student protests in different parts of the country. If put in place, this system will have a particularly strong impact on high achieving universities, allowing them to go beyond the original capped amount in order to respond to inflation and high demand from the year 2016/17 onward.Universities will be expected to provide detail of their graduate employment rate, as concerns were raised last November that the equal price of studies led to low-quality teaching being paid for the same way as better teaching was.A set of awards handed out to universities and colleges yearly would also invite private institutions to develop further, leading to potentially less reliable degrees being distributed to students of new establishments. The continued shift to funding through student tuition fees could see some universities fail, as higher education institutions are increasingly exposed to “open market competition”. The White Paper makes it clear that there will be no bail-outs for stuggling institutions, whose exit will make room for innovative new entrants to the higher education market.last_img read more

first_img The Chelsea manager revealed on the day Henry announced his retirement that the France striker came within “an inch” of moving to the Nou Camp from Monaco, but instead went to Juventus in 1999. “When I was an assistant in Barcelona with Mr (Bobby) Robson in 1996 (we tried to sign him). He was in Monaco and he went to Juventus, we lost him by an inch,” Mourinho told talkSPORT. Jose Mourinho has revealed he and Sir Bobby Robson came close to bringing Thierry Henry to Barcelona early in his career. Press Associationcenter_img “After that he was not on my radar because it was never a possibility to come to my teams. Could you imagine in that moment leaving Arsenal to come to Chelsea? I wouldn’t imagine that. “He’s the kind of player that you need forever, especially in the Premier League where he was more than any other place. “He was okay in Barcelona and the (France) national team, but the real Thierry Henry, the player that we are all going to miss forever, is the one that made unbelievable seasons and incredible history in the Premier League.” Mourinho is not intending to delve into the transfer market next month, but feared he might have to when Kurt Zouma was injured in Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup quarter-final win at Derby. “When I saw Zouma I was scared,” said Mourinho, who revealed the France defender is now fine. “We can’t lose players for a long period of time. “Happily for us and for the kid, no. We are a short squad, but a squad of good players. “Our project is to start and to finish the season with these players. Nobody to leave, nobody to come.” last_img read more

Ezekiel Elliott to discuss Las Vegas incident with Roger Goodell, report says The maximum number of inductees each year currently sits at eight.”It is extremely elite company, and it’s not the Hall of very, very good. It’s the Hall of Fame, and so it should be difficult to make it,” Baker said. “But there’s a lot of guys through the years [who have slipped through the cracks]. We have several guys who are on all-decade teams who aren’t in the Hall of Fame, so this is an opportunity with the Centennial coming up. What we’ve looked at potentially and has been approved, at least in concept, by our operating board … is that potentially we would have 20 Hall of Famers enshrined for the year 2020.
