Corpus Christi looks for revenge on two opponents who gave the Islanders five-set losses earlier this season; they host Sam Houston State (14-13, 10-4 SLC) on Thursday at  6:30 p.m. CT and Abilene Christian (11-15, 7-7 SLC) on Saturday at noon. McNeese competes at Central Arkansas (23-3, 12-2 SLC) on Thursday at 6 p.m. before closing the regular season at Northwestern State (13-16, 8-6 SLC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. D’Alessandro picked up 11 blocks on the week en route to clinching McNeese’s spot to the Southland Conference Tournament. The senior from Port Charlotte, Fla., tallied six block assists in Thursday’s 3-0 win over New Orleans. She turned around and added five more blocks (one solo, four assists) in a 3-0 Senior Day win against Southeastern Louisiana. She ended the week with 1.83 blocks per set. D’Alessandro ranks ninth in conference action in blocks per set with 1.10. Honorable Mention: Lexus Cain, Stephen F. Austin; Samantha Anderson, Central Arkansas; Channing Burleson, Northwestern State Gilpin led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a pair of sweeps and helped her team clinch a spot to the 2017 Southland Conference Tournament. In six sets, the senior from Houston led her side with 28 kills, averaging 4.67 kills per set. She hit .296 for the week and added a team-best 28 digs, two assists and a service ace to her name. Gilpin is sixth in the league in kills per set in conference matches with 3.46. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
