Virat Kohli is unlikely to get a green signal anytime soon on his request for players’ wives to travel on overseas tours.Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow wives of the players to accompany them on full overseas tours.”Yes he (Virat) had requested, but we are not going to take any decision soon. We have said that we will leave it to the new office bearers. The policy will not change now,” a source close to Committee of Administrators (CoA) told ANI.The current rule allows WAGs of Indian cricket team players to accompany them for only 14 days after the first two weeks of a 45-day tour abroad. But despite the rule Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma was seen travelling with the team throughout their tour in England. The cricketers’ wives including Anushka, Sakshi Dhoni, Ritika Sajdeh (Rohit Sharma’s wife), Ayesha Mukherjee (Shikhar Dhawan’s spouse) and others were present throughout the limited-overs series between India and England in July. But only Anushka stayed back and attended the Test matches as well. The Bollywood actress was even slammed on social media after she appeared in the Indian team’s picture at the High Commission event in London during the tour. Her presence raised eyebrows among Indian fans who were clueless as to why she was being allowed to travel with the team despite the BCCI asking the wives to join the camp only after the third Test in England.Kohli however, has gone on record to say that Anushka has stood by him in the good and bad phases of his life and her presence helps him perform on the field whenever the team tours abroad.advertisementKohli even dedicated his first Test hundred in England to Anushka after scoring 103 in the Nottingham Test in August.”I want to dedicate my innings especially to my wife. She’s motivated me a lot, kept pushing me. She’s the only one who keeps me positive out there. She has copped a lot in the past but she deserves the credit for this one,” Kohli had said after the match.According to reports, the COA has asked the Indian team manager to make a formal request after a BCCI official approached them on the issue.”The request was made a few weeks back but as it is a BCCI policy decision, the manager will have to submit a formal request first. Anushka has been travelling with Kohli overseas, however, Kohli now wants the old rule to be abolished and a new policy should come up where wives should be allowed to travel with the Indian team,” a source was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
